Throughout my college years, and my decision to become an artist,  Joan Mitchell has always been a HUGE an inspiration to me.

Today has been a busy day in the studio getting ready for my Open Studio Tour.

For more information see details in blog.

This year I am showing new paintings and  some of my new works on paper, in a series titled

 'Second Nature'.

This has been an exciting series as I have had the opportunity to do a lot of exploring this summer.

The drawings are discoveries and explorations in nature ... finding new ways to see shapes, line and texture...

Painting outside the studio is something I enjoy doing on a regular basis. Butterfly Beach, Montecito is one place I could paint a hundred times.

I love being outdoors and painting nature. The elements on some days can be difficult  and challenging,

but  peaceful. I enjoy the  sound of the ocean, the smell of saltwater in the air, and the seagulls flying by.

Come visit Santa Barbara and experience our great beaches!

I am currently working on some new drawings on paper using different mediums and techniques. Some of the drawings were done on trips to the mountains or to the beach or from my studio. Here a few samples.  See more on the Works on Paper page.

Though we do need rain in small doses, it was another beautiful winter day in paradise. This spot is  just below Shoreline Park where I often take beach walks. This photo was taken close to the golden hour,  a period before sunset during which daylight is redder and softer than when the sun is higher in the sky. I plan on coming back and painting this scene soon, another one to be  added to my landscape collection. Stay tuned!...
